about the artist wassily kandinsky

In April 2025, we began work on a documentary film about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. The film was initiated by the company More Art with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, to tell the story of the abstract art Kandinsky created, how it influenced the modern world, and how almost everything we see in art, architecture, and even interior design is his legacy.

In 2026, the film was selected for the Asolo Art Film Festival in Italy, where Tarkovsky was awarded many years ago.

This project turned out to be a real challenge. Kandinsky, who worked in the early 20th century, wrote several books: Point and Line to Plane, Steps, and Concerning the Spiritual in Art. He left behind a vast number of ideas and theories that were impossible to fit into a twelve-minute film.

But we tried, and with the help of 20th-century art experts, we finally reached the essence. Kandinsky reflected deeply on spirituality, the true path of art, and on how and why form should work with feelings and evoke emotions.

That is what we decided to make the film about, showing the specific means by which this dialogue between artist and viewer was achieved.

To tell the artist’s story, we chose several techniques: motion design, frame-by-frame animation, and artificial intelligence.

We paid special attention to AI. We ran a significant number of Kandinsky’s paintings through AI to show by example how the artist’s visual language works.
